Steve,
Return to base is sure easy to remember. Back in the late sixties, there
were lots of military people based in Hawaii because of the Vietnam war. Of
course, Wake Island, Johnston Island, Midway, Guam, Okinawa, and loads of
other islands had hams their, too. I well remember one guy during a SSB
contest KH6BFZ that used Blooming Flipper Zipper for Phonetics during the
contest.
