I guess I get this, but wouldn't you have to put the tuner in the bypass
position?

I can do this with my Tentech 238A manual tuner in the shack, but the MFJ
901B manual tuner I would use in the RV does not have a bypass position, at
least so far as I know.

Set the bridge and tune a receiver until the pulses minimum is heard.  Kind
of looking for a needle in a haystack.
