I don't know if this will help, but I had the same problem with my 
milestone.  The alarm came out of the internal speaker, but nothing else.  I 
ran the thing to absolutely dead.  It came back and the speaker works fine. 
This was an inadvertent test, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut.
