I'm probably missing something here, but last week when you mentioned 
this problem, didn't you say the 570 and it's auto tuner worked fine? 
Aren't both radios using the same coax to the antenna?

When it started acting funny, did you switch to the other radio and see 
if  things were still bad?

With the cost and involvement of putting up a new antenna, I think I'd 
spring for  new coax since it is only 25 feet and is old stuff.    If 
you had the cover off the tuner, I would have   wasted 60 seconds, a 
paper towel, and a teaspoon of alcohol and cleaned the inductor anyway. 
   Even if it has no bearing on your issue, it will need to be cleaned 
sometime and the time to do it is when the cover is off.
