Hi everyone,
For those who may be attending the NFB National Convention in Orlando
Florida:
First, If you're bringing a Scanner, Radio Reference www.radioreference.com
has the frequency and talkgroup info you'll need to scan while there. In the
Database page, search for "Orlando, FL" and choose the link for Orlando in
Orange County. Orlando PD, and Fire Department are carried on the Orange
County Public Services P25 trunked radio system, along with Orange County
Sheriff, Orange County Fire Department and other services. The Rosen Hotel
chain uses an LTR trunked radio system, and their info is also available on
the Orange County page you'll use to find Orlando info. If you own a PSR500
or PSR600 scanner, I'll be glad to share my Orlando .bin file with you, so
you can quickly get your scanner up and running.
Second, If there's enough interest, I'll have my laptop running the PSR500
app from PSREdit along with my PSR500 scanner and 40-cell Braille display at
the Freedom Scientific Training booth. If you want to drop by and see the
kind of information you can glean from the Braille display as the scanner
scans the Orange County Public Services P25 trunked radio system, I'll set
it up. If there's not enough expressed interest the first day (or sent to my
email address), I'll keep the scanner handy and will be glad to set things
up if we're not too slammed.
Third, Amateur Electronics Supply (AES) is located in Orlando. If you don't
live near a ham radio store, this might be your chance to make an expedition
(trek?) to their store and get some "hands-on" time with rigs you're
interested in touching. I don't know how far they are from the hotel, I
believe a bit of a distance, so sharing a taxi with some like-minded folks
would lower the fare per person. I'd like to join the expedition, but don't
think my schedule will permit it.
Finally, though this is most likely something everyone already knows, check
out the agenda for this year's convention to get info regarding the
activities of the NFB's Amateur Radio Division. I don't know what is
actually planned, but they have had at least one pre-convention meeting and
another meeting during the convention, in years past.
