Thanks, Steve, I found some information about APRS and PSK; it was enough to
let me know that it is something I'll tackle at some later date.<lol>

I don't know anything about APRS, but for PSK,  RTTY and other digital
stuff, the  2 main pitfalls are tuning in the incoming signal, and getting
your screen reader to spit out received text in some understandable fashion.

Look at digipan for psk and mmtty for rtty (both free) and truetty which 
I think does both modes, but not free.    A lot of people are doing 
different things  different ways.  There are some articles on  digital
operation by the blind at:
