I have owned both radios.

the 590 is a better hf radio all around.  better selectivity, better 
filtering, and a little more accessibility.
The 2000 offers all mode 2 meter and 70 cm use.  Also a specific sattellite 
mode.
If none of these vhf / uhf features is useful to you, get the 590.
