Howard and Group,

Those adaptors can be good but they can be problematic from manufacturer to
manufacturer's product.  If you want to have a USB cable that just works go
with the RT Systems cable and software.  When you attach the RT cable to
your computer the drivers and all necessary software is in a dongle inside
the usb connector of the cabbel.  The cable and drivers handshake with your
machine and the appropriate drivers are loaded and you have no problems.  No
muss no fuss.

You can purchase USB to RS232 adaptors.  These adaptors require a driver in
order for them to work, you can't just plug them in and get them to work. 
The price of these adaptors are  $20 to $30 depending upon where you
purchase.
