Thanks a bunch, I'll try the menu approach.  I have been hitting the
VFO/Memory button twice quickly to get the frequency.

Try setting menu 48 to number 61.    Since the 480 only has 1 pf key, 
many of us will set the pf key to some other function and get frequency 
readout by pressing the enter key twice  quickly.
