The issue here is that this problem does exist (under many names - like shift work disorder, etc). Its still a problem and there is now research to back it up. You mentioned in an earlier post that you had a Phd. in Neurology. Then you are smart enough to realize that neurological issues can cover a lot of ground and can have many causes. Simply labeling it the way you have is inappropriate. Now, mine may have been an inherited issue (virtually every male on my mothers side of the family had similar issues with sleep/wake pattern problems) that became further exasperated by not just 1 Traumatic Brain Injury, but more than one about 21 years apart (the first at age 2 and the second at age 23).

Now, in my case, several sleep studies were performed to see the extent of the problem. Its medically proven in my case that the problem is real. I have, by definition, a longer than normal day (total time with sleep and awake times comes to around 27 hours). This means that there are several periods during the month where I am severely desynced from local day/night schedule. Forcing myself into that schedule has caused all manner of problems (from weight gain to reduced cognitive function).

By labeling some of these the way you have, you are denying the possibility that a real problem exists. THus, I leave you with this truth to cogitate: Lack of evidence is not evidence of lack, it simply means that not all the facts are in. Thus, the opinions formed based on this lack of evidence could be considered quite flawed.

Now, I don't have a Phd, or even a college certificate in any degree program. What I *do* have is 49 years of hard experience, lots of medical documentation and the sure knowledge that not everyone knows everything about it.

With that, I am going back to bed to see if I can get what remains of my sleep period (the last 3 days I have had only 8 hours of real sleep and I am bloody tired and highly frustrated).
