Here in Arizona we have legal medical MJ too. I had been taking massive
quantities of narcotics for my cancer pain, and last fall one of my doctors
discussed medical MJ with me. I was going to get a medical MJ card, but
before I did, my doctors decided that I would benefit most from a pump which
administers narcotics directly into my spinal fluid. In December of 2012, I
was hospitalized to have a pump implanted into my upper left abdomen. A
thin catheter runs from the pump all the way around to my lower spine. The
catheter goes into my spine, and is snaked all the way up to about shoulder
blade height, right along with my spinal cord. The pump holds 40 CC of
Dilaudid, Fentanyl, Baclofen, and Bupivicaine, and dispenses it directly
into my spinal fluid which is far more efficient and effective than taking
pills or wearing patches.
If I hadn't had this pump implanted in me, I would have gotten a medical MJ
card, but once I got the pump, there was no longer a need for one.
