The cable that runs from the control head to the body of the radio is a rj12
cable. It looks and feels like a rj11 cable, but it has all six wires
connected inside.
When I pressure fit the damaged plugs in to the head and the radio, the up
and down buttons on the mike worked again.
I found replacement cables, am thinking of buying a long shielded one.
Their was an article about a guy who wanted to operate his radio from his
back yard. He wired up a long control head and paddle set of cables, took
the head and paddle out to his deck, and had a lovely time working DX from
his patio.
Sounds like a great idea!
