The N3FJ keying interface is one which is generally accepted for CW logging
programs.
Some recommend an opto-coupling device rather than a switching NPN device in
order to get better isolation.
Most of the contesting program software has a keyboard facility, also some
day-to-day shack programs.
In DOS, as mentioned before on this list, I have used both TR for
contesting, and Turbolog for shack management.
The Windows version of Turbolog isn't accessible with JFW which is most
unfortunate as accessibility was built into the DS version by G3WGV.
As Terry mentioned, there is a keyboard CW sending facility with N1MM which
can be turned on with CTRL+K - I think that it is a toggle, but I generally
use the escape key to exit.
The position of various commonly used abbreviations is odd.
SK (VA) is sent with [
Break (dah di di did ah) with =
And
Ar (did ah did ah dit) with +.
Not found an error key yet (di di di di di di di di) so usually send I I I
I.
So far I haven't found a way of re-mapping the keyboard which can be done in
other programs.

Recently, I have become interested in conducting general CW qsos via the
computer keyboard. I have a Bencher paddle here that I really enjoy using,
but thought keyboard CW sending might be kind of fun to try.
I'm not sure how to do it though, with the TS590.
I have successfully created and sent CW contest exchanges with the N3FJP
contest logging software and
a little keying interface made by W1GEE that N3FJP himself recommends. I
thought the N3FJP web site had a program for basic CW keyboard operation,
but can't seem to find it on his web site. I have e-mailed Scott, just to
be
sure I'm not missing something.
If it is not possible to send CW via the keyboard in a general QSO via the
N3FJP software, I need to look into other options. One might be the
Tigertronics USB
Signalink that I already have. Another option would be the K42 keyer from
K1EL that Lou (WA3MIX) showed me during a brief visit to his home QTH as my
XYL and I traveled through northern Pennsylvania this past Monday on our
way back to Michigan.
I'm curious as to what people on the list use to send CW in general qsos via
the computer keyboard. Any specifics, including hardware devices, necessary
software, costs, etc. would be appreciated.
