No, the magic jack has a USB plug on the bottom. That plugs in to a
supplied 110 AC volt to 5 volt DC converter. That plugs in to a power
strip.
The hash appeared when I connected the magic jack to the phone jacks. When
I disconnected the cord to the wall jack from the magic jack the noise went
away. I put an old RF phone line filter between the magic jack and the cord
that goes to the home phone jacks, and that filtered out the noise.
