Here is something I was reading last night. Don't know if it is of any
interest to you, and it is just one ham's opinion on different headsets:

As for the "powered adapter box", I assume you mean something to put
the needed voltage to a condenser mic. I know the Yamaha CM 500
headset (about $50 in the US) comes with a small battery box to provide
voltage, but you would also need to adapt the 1/8 mic plug to the radio.
I think W2ENY has some adapters that plug into the radio's mic jack,
bring it down to 1/8 and put the needed voltage to the mic element.
Of course the radio in question has to provide some voltage on one of
it's mic jack pins for the adapter to drop it to the proper voltage.
