John,
While most of the world has gone to AFSK using the sound card to
transmit, I prefer to run in FSK mode. While this needs a
connection to hard key the radio, it also allows use of the FSK filters
which are quite narrow. I crank the filter down to 250 hz (narrowest
setting) and tune slowly across the signal until JAWS starts speaking.
I haven't messed around with the SSB Data filters in the 590, but it may
work fine in AFSK.
I've done the FSK thing mentioned above on the TS-2000, 480, and 590.
