Don,
I would check for resistance between the center conductor and the shield.
Your antenna or the ballon it is connected to might be at DC ground. So
make sure that you disconnect your antenna from the far end of the coax
before you check for a short.

Subject: Electronics question
If I was wanting to check to see if have a short in my coax cable for my ham
radio antenna using my talking volte/ohm meter what would I use to check to
see if there's a short or problem anywhere either in the coax or antenna
that it's connected to?
Would I check for resistance or capacitence or what?
Tnx cul 73 nr4dr
