Junior, I know you will have mixed feelings about your decision as did I,
but if you have the means to live comfortably and have enough interests to
pursue as I'm sure you do, then things will probably go fine for you.
Before I retired, I attended a series of retirement workshops and one of the
first things they asked was, do you have a life outside of work. Man, I had
no problem saying yes to that one. I gave over 30 years to my job and
worked hard with students every day, but when 5 pm came on most days, my
time was mine. I don't know about your workplace, but at the University
there was a work culture rewarding people who put in a bunch of overtime.
They gave out a lot of Atta-boy's for people who worked extra time which I
did on a few occasions but not always. Anyway if you ever want to talk at
length about this drop me an email and we can hook up on Skype. For some
reason, I don't launch it much, but we've talked before and I'd be happy to

Sometimes you just have to know when it is time to walk away.
I want to get out before the burn out kicks in.
The average for burn out for dispatchers is 3 to 5 years.
I so far have beat the odds.

Junior, good for you. I have been retired since July of 2009 and
can say
that I have not missed work at all. I remember feeling kind of
strange
asking myself why I was walking away from a perfectly good job
when so many
other people were struggling and out of work. I realized that I
was just
getting somewhat burned out and stressed though I was still
trying to give
it my all. I also realized that having put in over 30 years I
would get an
adequate pension and Social Security as well so could live
comfortably
without working. That has proven to be the case and with money
from playing
music gigs, I can by boy toys without hitting my regular income
stream.

I have started the process for my retirement.
I will work until February 28 and on March 1st then I start
burning all of
my leave time.
My official retirement date is August 1.
I will have 5 months of leave time to burn.
I am gonna have a lot of time for ham radio.
