I think it was Howard.  Anyhow, I did a quick read through on the menus 
and I was wrong about the up down keys being assignable as they are in 
other Kenwood radios.  I don't see any mention of them at all in the menu. 
There are 4 function keys (if you have the appropriate microphone), and 
function key on front pannel, but no mention of the up down keys.  I'm not 
sure why they wouldn't be working.  All these do is ground a pin on the 
connector, one for up and one for down.  I find it odd both would fail at 
the same time.  I'll keep digging.
