Thanks for the suggestions.  I want to put this in my back yard, and it'll 
be right near that tin roof.  I'll just have to put down as many radials as 
I can and hope for the best.  My main concern remains the tin roof though. 
Even though the roof is pretty much horizontal, it's only horizontal wrt the 
vertical at the roof line.  From the bottom or top of the vertical, it looks 
like a big piece of metal, or so I believe.

I would like to put up a vertical in my back yard, probably something like a
Butternut HF9V.  The only problem is that I have a patio cover with a tin
roof.  I suspect this will have some effect on the vertical, but I'm not
sure just what.  The roof is about 9 or ten feet off the ground, and is
pretty much flat.  I might be able to get away with mounting the antenna on
that roof, but I'll need to get permission from our H.O.A. first, and I'd
prefer to have it ground mounted anyway.

Any thoughts on what would be the best thing to do, given I'm not going to
mount it on the tin roof?
