Yero,
What is of utmost consequence to note, is that the political
realities in the Gambia are an evolving process. And this process move
from one stage to another. We should be able to recognize every stage
of development in this process that should inform and guide a response.
The nation-state is a historical and political construct. And
people have pledged their lives, their fortunes and their honor and
struggle to build a society that creates a delicate balance between
people and the institutions that are created for their welfare and well
being; as well as an enduring and lasting democratic culture.
History is replete with people motivated by their conscience and a
desire to end human suffering and exploitation who have struggled to
build such a society. Therefore the hearts and minds of all those noble
people who are out there engage in this struggle are in the right
place.
My observation was just to take another look. Moreover, the
evolution of the political process cannot be left to the dictates of
chance, spontaneity and for it to revert to its opposite. This process
must be guided at every stage. To help bring sanity where there is
insanity and reason where there is chaos.
I do not for one minute underestimate the potency and relevancy of
the Diaspora struggle. And I sympathize with all of the players who are
in the forefront.
Rene

Greetings Rene -
On changing the movingpolitical path (trajectory), it is a difficult
issue. It is a hard conclusionto arrive at. It is after years of
observations for those that suffered andcontinue to suffer. Military
intervention is a last option. It is not our firstchoice, but at some
point, we got to. As we travel together, it is becomingclearer that an
election under the given atmostphere is just a furtherlegitimization of
Jammeh's presidency. Jammeh with his tone and actions hasruled for 19
years and he will not “negotiate” with you or anyone elseinterested in
what he perceives not as his own democracy.
Personally, I thinkDemocracy came short of addressing an environment
where the ingredient of itdoesn’t exist. If a family man or farmer was
to see his kids or animals beinghurt every day. I bet you, he will at
some point defend himself, family andanimal farm by all within his
means. The more that we travel on this part, themore that we get hurt,
the more we delay our journey to democracy anddevelopment.
You have some solid groundto position it that way so beautifully. While
agreeing with all that you saidexcept your ruling out of military
option as viable, and to that, I truly shareyour fears about its
possible repercussions. I don’t think there is a singleperson calling
for the “confrontation” of our nation through violent means. What we are
calling for is the continued fighting, both intellectually andwhere a
last option as clearly seen, the use of tactical military
interventionor citizens’ popular uprising to dislodge the criminal
regime and nurture in ademocratic society. The expectation is any such
intervention will be done in away of minimal damage.
In anyway, it is my opinion.I am glad that James & the many others are
positioning things in the mostfitting tones. I hope that actions
follows.
Yero.
