Hi Rachel,
Instead of cutting or altering the file which would then require the 
other person to re-connect the pieces, you might try uploading it 
wholesale as is or zipped to an online storage site and sending the 
download link to whomever you want. Dropbox works well and once you have 
the client downloaded and an account set up, you can use it for moderate 
sized online backup storage too. There are several others I haven't 
tried, but Dropbox works well and there are ways to set up more than one 
account but you can only have one active account for folder 
synchronization on your computer through the client or program.
For example, I have one personal account for small backups that I 
manually upload to through my browser and I have access to a group 
account which is the one that I keep active synchronization on my 
computer for our group collaboration.
