I hear you, Steve.
My usual practice would be to not even think about transmitting with the
antenna in cases that would require that much tuning. However, I guess, it
might be necessary if you have only one antenna to work with which is the
case out at the RV.
Depending on what we do this camping season in terms of where we end up,
etc., I might switch antennas from the low-hanging G5RV I was using, but
that remains to be determined.

Tom,
If the antenna is that badly compromised, you'll need the external tuner to
get the SWR down to something useable.
