Rob, you might be able to use an indoor dipole or perhaps a balcony antenna.
Also, there are those magnetic loop antennas that might work for you, but
they're fairly expensive as I recall.
Regarding antenna tuners, I use an MFJ 993B autotuner that's pretty simple
to work for a blind guy. If it's on autotune, you just put your rig into a
low-power tune, and it tunes automatically, and then remembers the setting
for that frequency range, so it's really quick the next time. Also, the
auto-tuners in the transceivers out today are simple to use.
