hi list

my friend and i fish a lot.
on the boat we recently installed a lowranz plotter/fish findner.

of course, like most out of the box gps units it is not accesible.
but i read the manual and saw that it transmits an ais signal. basically
that signal is sent out so other boats can see your boat and its direction
and speed and other information.

does anyone know the nature of this signal and if i can tap into it using
an old ipod touch (which likely will get ruined on a fishing boat)?
