Classic tricks in negotiation. Ask for the impossible and meet your
opponent somewhere in the middle. Thus everyone walks away feeling good
about themselves. This declaration must be seen as that.

That said, I think this is a great opportunity for Gambians everywhere,
particularly in Europe. We must recognized that there is a new dynamics
at play. In the past EU negotiations were often behind closed doors and
out of press. This must be a signal to all who sent protest letters and
signed petitions that our demands were heard and EU is willing to go the
extra step. As we must not leave it to them  alone. We should keep
engaged by contacting our respective governments (local or national) and
let them know that we are watching them and relying on their resolve not
to settle for any less than the 17 points.

All these tantrums and talk of religious  mascaraed are nothing but for
local consumption.
