Well, that's easy Daren. You have to set each VFO up on a
different band, one VHF, one UHF. To go into crossband mode you
turn the radio off. You hold down the third button from the left
in the row of buttons on the bottom front of the radio. While
holding that button in, you power on the rig. That's all you
have to do. If something is a miss, the rig will not be in
crossband mode. To turn crossband off, you power down the rig,
hold in the same third button from the left, and power up the rig
again. You will then be back in regular operation. Good luck,

That's all I would want to do as well. Just turn crossband
on/off.

Jim,
Although doable, it's not very practical for a couple of reasons.
First,
you get no feedback. So, for example, you can set a frequency,
but you'll
have no idea if you did it correctly. Second, all function
controls
including PTT are disabled when in Remote Mode. So unless you
also have
crossband repeat enabled, you can't do anything but control the
radio. I
suppose you could do things like change power level, but it's a
lot of work
to go through for very little gain. Besides, unless you have
control
sequences programmed into DTMF memories (not possible on any of
the Chinese
handhelds as far as I know), you may find it difficult to key the
sequences
in accurately.
For me, the only practical use of Remote Mode is to turn
crossband on and
off.

Kind of hard to picture doing this. Let us know if you are
successful doing it. Maybe you could even consider doing a
podcast going through each of the steps. It really sounds
interesting. I have done cross band, but never expected that
you
could control the 71A from a handheld. 73, Jim
