I've never had trouble with EchoLink before, but I never used it on 64-bit
Windows 7. My little Windows XP laptop is dying and I use it only for
testing these days.

So under Win 7, I've got the latest version and I know how to change to
different audio input devices, mute and unmute, set their volume and tell
EchoLink which one to use.

But the microphone always appears muted. If I listen to myself on the
EchoTest server, there's just a dead carrier.

Without changing any settings, I can run other software including Total
Recorder, Sound Recorder, Studio Recorder and Skype (not all at once of
course!) and each of them will see any Mic I have fine. In the volume mixer
the mic is shown as not muted, and audio recorded from it sounds great. I
have several usb microphones, plus an awful-sounding built-in mic on the
laptop.

I briefly got EchoLink to use the built-in mic, but now we're back to dead
carrier again.

I've tried selecting the properties for the EchoLink shortcut and its .EXE
file and changing compatibility settings. That makes no difference and
setting it to run in "compatibility mode" for any OS below Windows XP makes
the entire PC crash.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas about where to go next to ask
for help?
