True, IF what you mean is that all information on the hard drive
will be lost, but this is true of ALL hard disks. You can't
physically harm the drive with FDISK. Could they perhaps have been
referring to a LOW-LEVEL FORMAT (as opposed to a DOS format)? FDISK
is required of a new drive before it can be formatted. It is also
needed (unless you use something like Partition Magic) to create
partitions on large drives.
