Thanks to those of you who helped me find my IP address.

the problem I'm having with my wireless scanner seems to be more
complicated. After I go into Scanners and Devices on my windows 8.1
machine, locate the Brother MFC-7860DW properties, and enter my IP
address. my system keeps telling me the scanner is not connected. I've
tried using the IP addresses from the website David suggested and from
the information I get through the commandline as Mark suggested. I've
also asked my computer to browse for the IP address and used that.
Results, however, are the same.

I found a help article on the Brother website. With a title like "I can
print but I Can't Scan," I thought I'd found the answer, but even after
updating the four-in-one's firmware and following the rest of the steps,
the computer still thinks the scanner is unconnected.

finally, I've tried the control panel's troubleshooting area, and no dice.

My next step is to call Geek Squad, which I've had positive experiences
with, but because I have extra expenses this month, I was hoping to save
the money.

So I figure I'll ask one last time, any ideas about why this is
happening. Again, I have a four-in-one on a wireless network. I'm able
to print just fine, but since I upgraded to 8.1, I have not been able to
scan because the computer thinks the scanner is not connected. I was
able to scan when my computer was on Windows 8.0.

Thanks again for all your help.

ciao
