Control+tab will rotate you through your different tabs. Your list of
messages will be in one tab and the message you opened up with the enter
key will be in another. As you open up more and more tabs, the
control+tab key won't toggle you between those two tabs but rather cycle
you through your open tabs. For example, I use the calendar extension
Lightning, so this is one of my tabs.
If you want to close the tab/windows the message is in and go back to
your list of messages, try the key combination control+w.
