Hello Peter, and Judy,
That 'Dictate' button works great on filling in
long company names when creating a contact, too. I
despise text-typing. (smile)
I've used SIRI a few times to send texts. If
you've already got someone in your contact list,
You can just tell SIRI to "Send text to
so-and-so." I notice it sometimes doesn't catch
all of what I ask, so I've gotten into the habit
of saying it's 'name' first, such as, "SIRI, send
a text to so-and-so." It works much cleaner, seems
to me. Then, it asks me what I want to say in the
text. So I push the botton again, it beeps, and I
speak my message, along with the punctuation.
Strive On!
Everett

Best to bypass Siri altogether. When you enter
your messages app, once you've double tapped to
enter the "to" or "text" field, just to the left
of the spacebar is a "dictate" button: single tap
to begin and double tap to end. Then after Siri
says "thinking" your message will appear for you
to proofread. Then just hit the send button.
The recognition is quite good.
