I think you are making it sound a bit more daunting than it really is.
If a numbskull like me who barely got out of high school can make it
work, I'm sure you can. The functions are probably more intuitive than
the manual makes it appear.
The USB and LSB data modes are only used if you are doing digital stuff
via a sound card. It would allow you to set the high and low cuts of
the filters to optimize for data and not be forced to use the SSB
settings.
I found going from a TS-430 to a TS-2000 a bit intimidating a dozen
years ago, but going from the 2000 to a 480 was no problem and then from
the 480 to a 590 was a piece of cake. I don't use all the features,
but I'm happy they are there.
