I'm incline to agree with John. Programs that are based on computer to computer contact over the Internet, programs such as Hamsphere and CQ100 aren't ham radio and shouldn't be referred as such.
There's nothing wrong with using them. I've used them my self and still get on Echolink from time to time to check into our local 2M net because I don't have a HT or mobile in the car or set up as a base. So as long as there's a ham radio at one end of the circuit, then it's ham radio. When I use Echolink to talk to another computer with out a radio in between, then even Echolink isn't ham radio. That's just my opinion and you know what they say about that.
