Hello friends,

I hope that I don't start receiving e-mails that I bought the wrong radio
<smile>. While I don't have the ideal radio, I think I can make it work.
<lol>. This radio, while seemingly difficult to use, is not that difficult
after all. Once I get the software to communicate with the radio, I should
be able to easily program what I want since it is in the interface and I
have figured out a way to use the interface with JAWS.

I have found what appears to be a solution for the driver not loading under
windows XP for the Prolific 2303 USB to serial adapter. After more research
yesterday into the issue, I found that the article I listed in my prior
e-mail had most of the information I needed to get the Prolific driver up
and running with one exception: the ser2pl .sys driver that ships with the
downloadable does not properly function. So, what is happening is that
there is an error in device manager which states the device did not turn on
and it gives an error code 10. This error code 10 is very often encountered
with this Prolific device. Needless to say, I will probably be making my
own USB to serial cable in the near FUTURE.

Moving on to my update. Well, there is a driver called ser2pl.sys that is
installed when you run the updated prolific installer that is downloaded
from the Prolific web site. The C ser2pl.sys does not seem to work with the
PL-2303 USB to serial a adapter so it must be updated to a different version
to get it working. To do this, you must run a tool, which I have, that
removes the ser2pl.sys driver and leaves everything else alone. You then
take and download the updated ser2pl.sys driver and when the Prolific device
is installed, it asks for the ser2pl.sys driver and you simply point to the
folder where you extracted the ser2pl.sys file.

This gets the driver updated and also recognizes the Prolific USB to serial
adapter. Now, the UV-3R programming software sees the com port for the
device no matter what COM port you are using. On my machine , the COM port
is COM4.

So, this is progress and I am moving forward. One issue I have now :

Everything appears to be working except that when the software goes to read
from the radio, it comes back with the error that states Not found.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the radio software and nothing yet. Any
thoughts would be appreciated!
