Hello my friends,

As promised, this is an overview on how the Handi Ham TechNet went last
night. I do have to report that there was much, as always, to discuss. We
don't have enough time to cover it all.

The Handi Ham Conference Server has had some issues as of recent and we are
working on solving the issues as soon as possible. In the meantime, we
have been connecting to *van-irlp* for the daily nets and for the Tech Net
last night. As promised, more than engaging, the net was truly amazing last
night. What we thought would be a one hour net is turning into a two hour
Tech Net. The main goal has been achieved : To provide a forum where hams
can talk about technology related topics. We don't have limits as to what
is discussed. We simply want your input on questions and comments that are
made by hams. Thus, we have a Tech Net by Hams and for Hams. Are you ready
to find out how it went? Well, visit the Handi Ham web page for the weekly
TechNet recording and for the past recordings. Thank you Pat, WA0TDA, for
allowing the net to take place. Thanks to KA0PQW and N0BVE for allowing
your repeaters to propagate this type of communication which is very
beneficial to all hams.

So, here is the overview:

1. KD0ETQ - Asked a question about GMRS. The BAOFENG radio he
purchased has the feature and he was asking what GMRS is and if any
additional licensing is required. Listen in to find out!

2. KF8EV - TNV7A question (the older model). The issue is that when
he shuts down, it does not remain in the frequency or memory channel he was
on before. The radio returns to memory channel one when he turns it back
on.

3. VO1AX - FT102 from 1983: Needs recommendations on how to use the
General Width Control.

4. KG4PXG Had an answer for KF8EV, listen in for the answer!

5. KD0SZH - Wanted to learn a bit more about the various handheld
radios. Specifically, the Wouxun Handi Talkies. This was truly the question
that brought much discussion on the net last night; listen in as the next
two stations truly detail their recommendations and experiences.

6. KF7UTR - Wanted to find out what he could do if he wants to connect
through a repeater that is on IRLP : how does he go from that repeater to
somewhere else. He also wanted to know why some of the nodes are four
digits and why some have a few additional digits.

7. AE5YC - Had 6 meter DXing question. We promised discussions about
several topics and this one was another topic that generated interest.

That is what the Handi Ham Radio Club Tec Net is all about; hams joining to
discuss and further the advancement of Ham Radio. Let's keep it going
folks. Don't forget to visit the Handi Ham web site for archives and for
this week's Handi Ham TechNet session.

Have a great weekend !

73,

Jose - KK4JZX
