I meant to write a post about this on Wednesday night, when it
happened, but there was an incredible opening on the 2 meter band up
here in Virginia.
I first noticed it on my police scanner when it started picking up
packet radio from 3 or 4 counties over on the local fire department
dispatch channel.
At first I thought it was just me, until the fire dispatcher noticed
it and was asking people what was going on with the radios.
I can normally pick up 1 noaa weather station here that broadcasts
from a mountain about 60 miles from my qth, but on Wednesday, I got
one from Pensylvania that was about 200 to 250 miles away.
I was able to transmit with my Baofeng, and get a repeater full quiet
about 30 to 40 miles away while sitting in my house and only using the
stock duck.
Repeaters that I can usually barely even here were coming in full
quiet, and I could hear simplex traffic on 146.52 that was also very
far away.
I don't know how far the simplex traffic was, but I didn't recognize
any local hams talking on there.
Did any of you guys get this?
I have never heard anything like it.

Zach, kk4ruz
