Hi Terry,

Yes, I was hoping to revive a talking SWR meter project started here in the
UK. Chris G5VZ produced a working prototype and RAIBC were hoping to find a
manufacturer and commit to an initial order. Then when we were on the
threshold, certain members of the RAIBC committee became more interested in
ownership of the design than getting it made. In fact the design is owned
by G5VZ, not RAIBC, and I left when the name calling started. Ridiculous
position to be in, but I have better things to do with my time than to deal
with entrenchment from fund raisers who have no idea about operating as a
blind amateur.

Although we know there is a need for an accessible meter, I would suggest
the numbers are not that great. I kept a list of those interested from this
list, and had just 8 expressions of interest.

This is where the RAIBC project was so important, in my view. giving the
commitment to buy over 100 units was a good incentive for a small amateur
radio manufacturer to get involved. We know this project will be small
volume and make no one rich, and the quibble over Charity ownership seems
petty to say the least.

I arranged for Chris G5VZ to chat with Rob K6DQ of Hampod, they are both my
friends, and I am hopeful Rob can design a talking meter, perhaps with some
thoughts from the G5VZ design. I guess the KX3 integration into the Hampod
has taken all of Rob's time recently.

Personally, the positive thing to come from this is the Active Elements
website, now I have more time, but I wish the talking meter had gone into
production. I get annoyed just thinking about it <smile>.

Best wishes, Kelvin Marsh - M0AID

I seem to remember expressing interest in such a project recently, is = this
the same one. I understand a figure of $150 was mentioned.

Cheers,

Terry
