Howard:
Well, based on somewhat limited experience so far, here's my comparison on
the two antennas:
The Alpha Delta DXCC is absolutely awesome on 40 meters; in fact, I'd say
it is the best 40-meter antenna I have ever had. It does reasonably well
on 10, 15, and 20, but is not necessarily a show stopper. The Alpha Delta
is also ok on a portion of 80 meters, which is why I felt I needed something
better for 80. It is very narrow, as one would expect, given its 82-foot
length.
I have not had a terrific amount of time to play with the Cobra Ultralite
since we put it up in late March, but it's best band by far is 80 meters,
which is why I bought it in the first place. For reasons I don't quite
understand, it does not do well on 40 meters. In fact, I can't get it to
tune on the lower part of 40 with the auto-tuner in the TS590, which is a
bit disappointing. However, since the DXCC does so well on 40, it's not a
devastating loss. The Ultralite seems to be about equal to the DXCC on 20
meters, as was borne out in a test on one of our Cross-country nets in early
April.
With all of this being said, I'm sure some of the issues I'm facing are
unique to my installations, and as I think our friend Butch or Steve would
say: You're milage may vary.
The Alpha Delta is up about 35 feet at the center, while the Cobra is
probably 25 to 30 feet at best.
