Walt,

Is this Windows 7? My Win 7 pc is similar. In the Windows search
box enter this:

manage audio devices

On the playback tab, arrow down to "headphones", be sure you have
headphones plugged in. Tab down to "set as default", then save or OK
or whatever it says and the headphones will play.

For the mic jack, do the same thing under the recording tab. With a mic
plugged into the jack, select "microphone" , then set it as "default".

Hope this helps.
