Doug,

Everyone will have a different answer, but  I use light processing 
almost all the time.   I try  to keep it below 5, but you will get an 
odd peak every so often.   Unless I'm trying to bust a pile-up, I use 
the soft effect on  menu 29, and I get many reports of good audio.  Your 
mileage may vary.
