It depends on the nature you are connecting to.  If the 857 wasn't designed 
to give you an outboard reading, it probably won't work with any device. 
The icoms have a completely different problem.  The vgs 1 synthesizer used 
in the 7000 has a lot of power but the way icom displays the informaTake it 
from someone who had to learn how to operate a 7000 while my 850 was in the 
shop.  Needless to say I was glad when it came back because I was  more 
familiar with its tendencies and I couldn't get the 7000 out of split 
operation and it had a couple of diodes which needed replacement so the 
power output was significantly reduced.  73- pat kk3f tion prevents the 
synthesizer from doing its job properly.
