first depending on who you bought it from you may get it open across =
its range so be mindful of that
and don't accidently transmit on the local NOAA freq. You're going to =
find that the 6 radios are
narrow band compliant. This means the transmiter will also transmit =
FMN and the receiver will tune
FMN as well. In the frequency step menu which is menu 1 option 0 will =
set your tuning step to 2.5
kHZ. My 6d appears to skip menu 27 and I cant get any guidance as to =
why this is so I will be
interested to see if yours does the same thing. Like all of these =
  radios, yours will come up
talking so no problem there. The 6d looks feels and acts like a =
commercial radio even down to the
carrier drop. Anyone who has had any experience with Motorola or =
  Vertex commercial radios should
know what I am talking about. In closing: In my experience and I =
have only had the thing just
under 2 weeks it won't take you long to get it up on the air at all. =
  One more thing about the
menus; The menus you are likely to use most frequently are the ones =
  which are communicative. Menus
    1 2 3 4 7 8 9 and the menus which control offset offset direction and =
  memory reading and writing.
Hope that helps and let us know how you get on. =20
