Absolutely, the only thing I use the built in TNC for is the packet cluster 
and sometimes monitoring my full time packet station to make sure things are 
working as they should be if need be though right now I don't even have an 
antenna on the UHF/VHF side of the TS-2000 and haven't as long as it's been 
setup here. Maybe over the winter I'll put something on it low but where I 
want to put it if I actually do is full of bees right now. I don't even miss 
it but I'm going up to put up a 6 meter dipole, I might do that while I'm up 
there.
