I bought an HP evo P4 1.7MHz With Windows xp pre-installed and see these things
In the task manager i see :
ibserver.exe
vmnetdhcp.exe
vmnat.exe
vmount2.exe
vmware-authd.exe
DrvLsnr.exe
SMTray.exe
SMAgent.exe
ibguard.exe
In device manager I see in the Network adapters section :
VMware virtual network adapter VMnet1
VMware virtual network adapter VMnet8
There's also these folders
c:\Program files\VMware
c:\Program files\VMware\VMware player
c:\Program files\Common files\VMware
c:\Program files\Common files\VMware\VMware virtual image editing
c:\Program files\Common files\VMware\VMware virtual machin importer
a shortcut called "VMPlayer", and finally a series text files called :
"VMware-VMount-?.log"
in the c:\Windows\Temp
were the ? caracter is every number between 0 and 9.
I was wandering what all these stuff is about?
I know that there's a virtualisation system called VMWare and would like to know if this system is allready running in this computer.
Would that mean that XP is installed as a guest within WMWare. In that case could I lost some performance? Or is my computer open to vulnerabilty?
On the other side, I wonder if I can take it as an opportunity to experiment with these topic. Then What could I try with it?
Thanks a lot!
