Hi Trippy,
Some phone companies have a program for people who are on SNAP, Medicaid, Heap, SSI and some other Government Programs. You provide verification of income to your phone company. Some of them provide phone service with no long-distance. Some will provide long distance in your area. You can also get a cell phone with limited minutes which allows for long distance calls. You might want to get the cell phone for long-distance and have a local landline for your local calls.
You could even get a Go Phone and just put minutes on it. Through ATT you can just put money on your account for long-distance with your cell fone. I just put on about fifteen dollars every three months.
We have a landline too. Check with your local phone company. Your state Public Utilities Commission should be able to tell you about saving on your phone bill
bill too.
I hope this helps!
