Hi Linda,
I will answer some of your questions below following those that I can
answer.
1. do I have to wait till my callsign shows in the fcc's database to just
> install echo link? Cause I can just listen.
No, you won't be allowed to use it unless Echolink can verify that you have
a valid license.
2. I have a wireless router and its not a secured router, I have no idea how
to set ports. Do the q and a refer to this?
The Q and A won't give you specific instructions because there is no way to
consider all routers. The Q and A will just give you general guidelines
such as what ports to allow Echolink to use.
If you can give me the model number of your router, I will be more than
happy to try to help you set it up. I will be willing to call you on the
phone to help. I would want the model ahead of time so I can study up on
it.
3. When echo link is up and running and I find the frequency, I have a
> regular mike and I have headphones, how does one speak in the mike-do you
> just hit the spacebar or what.
Yes, you just press a key to talk. I haven't used Echolink for many years
so I don't know the commands any longer.
4. I know I can read the documentation on echo link, which I will do, but I
> enjoy listening to all of your suggestions. LOL!
We enjoy helping each other.
Ttake your time and just study regularly on your General and you will make
it through.
