I never had a problem on 75/80 and I'd say over 3/4 of the people I talk to
daily on the NTS nets on 80 meters run g5RV's. I ran one for a long time,
then went to a cobra ultralite which is definitely better, but then at the
apartment I was last in I ran a G5RV yet again and they performed fine on
80. Some guys I know swear by them, I can't say they're the best but they
work well enough. I've never had any complaint and no one I know does.
