The Daily Observer (Banjul)
Gambia: Rambo 'Suspicious' of Darboe's Visit
Assan Sallah & Momodou Faal
28 November 2011
A former UDP strongman who defected to the APRC in January this year,
has said that he is suspicious of the 'surprise visit' made to his
compound by Lawyer Ousainou Darboe on Election Day.
Ousman Rambo Jatta made the remark on Friday evening during an
interview with the Daily Observer in Bakau, while jubilating with his
youths after the declaration of the presidential Election results by
the IEC.
He said: "The purpose of their visit is yet unknown because they did
not meet me there by that time I was going around with Kaddy Bah to
the Gamworks Polling Station distributing papers to our party agents.
It was at that time I received a call that the man [Darboe] is in town
but I was not initially told that he came to my compound. It was later
when I went home that I was informed that he came to my compound and
asked for one 'Mbakutu', which is very strange.
The last time Mr Darboe came to my compound was five years ago."
Jatta, who disclosed that the UDP leader was accompanied by some of
his party stalwarts -Femi Peters, Kebba Ansu Drammeh and One Rewan
Secka, believed to be his (Darboe's) bodyguard said he lodged his
complaint to the IEC and was directed to report to the Bakau Police
Station which he did. He said he also wrote his statement at the
police station.
"I want to know what he was doing in my compound on election day
because we are in different political parties and we are not in the
campaign period, it was election day.
I believe he was looking for something but I see the whole issue as an
act of provocation and trespass. Ousainou is fully aware that he has
no single vote in my compound because my family members are with me.
We are in the same boat and wherever I am they are with me. So his
[Darboe's] visit to my compound needs to be explained," he concluded.
