quite so.  Although you can use an external balun and feed the internal 
tuner with coax.  The newer internal auto tuners are much better.  Elecraft 
claims the tuner in the K3 will match anything up to 10 to 1.  I've never 
taken precise measurements but my personal experience would seem to support 
this.  Then there's the convenience factor.  It's nice to be able to hit a 
button and be ready to go in seconds.  I have both internal and external 
options available and I haven't had a need to use the external manual tuner 
which is a dentron super tuner in years.  This is with a G5Rv which seems to 
fall well within the K3 tuner's range.
